A Medical Mission was held for the third time in October of 2017 to benefit the inhabitants of more than 20 communities in the municipality of Senahú, Alta Verapaz.
This was a joint effort between Fundación Trece Aguas, the leaders of the benefited communities, and the Senahú Permanent Health Care Center.
A total of 25 doctors from Utah Medical Outreach, specializing in pediatrics, otolaryngology, gynecology, general medicine, optometry, dentistry, and surgery, visited Guatemala to treat residents with a variety of medical conditions.
For three days, 915 patients had the opportunity to conduct medical consultations with – and be treated by – professionals in each of these fields. A total of 48 surgeries were performed throughout the course of the mission, improving the quality of life of each patient.
The mission also had the support of 40 local volunteers, who donated their time and efforts to collaborate with the translation between Spanish and Q’eqchi’, keep the Health House clean, and see to the registration and care of the patients. Another 8 volunteers participated as translators between English and Spanish.
These types of activities help benefit the neediest communities and create bonds based on mutual support and trust.
